Overview
MCC 6011 is applied to automated teller machine (ATM) cash withdrawals. This is one of the highest-volume MCCs globally, covering all card-initiated cash dispensing at ATMs operated by banks, independent ATM deployers, and cash machine networks.
Transaction Profile
Low to mid value, high frequency, card-present dominant, PIN required, cross-border common
Card Network Notes
Cash advance interchange applies. Visa and Mastercard impose surcharge disclosure requirements. ATM operators must display fee notices before transaction completion. DCC (Dynamic Currency Conversion) is common at tourist-area ATMs.
Risk & Compliance
Risk is medium. ATM fraud including skimming, shimming, and cash trapping remains a persistent threat. Networks require EMV chip processing and increasingly mandate contactless capability. Cross-border ATM usage attracts additional fraud monitoring from issuers.
