Overview
MCC 7011 is the general lodging code applied to hotels, motels, resorts, and other accommodation providers that do not have a brand-specific MCC in the 3501–3999 range. This covers independent hotels, boutique properties, bed and breakfasts, and smaller chains.
Transaction Profile
Mid to high value, low frequency, card-present and CNP mixed, pre-authorisation common, delayed settlement, tip/incidental charges
Card Network Notes
Visa and Mastercard have specific lodging rules covering estimated authorisations, incremental auths, and no-show billing. Enhanced dispute rights apply for cardholders. Acquirers must ensure merchants comply with pre-auth and final billing protocols.
Risk & Compliance
Risk is medium. Chargebacks are common due to service quality disputes, no-show billing conflicts, and cancellation policy disagreements. Pre-authorisation and estimated billing create reconciliation challenges. Networks require specific rules for lodging merchants including delayed billing and incremental authorisation support.
